Golf in Pau: courses, history and planning your stay

Pau has a special place in European golf history. Staying in the city centre lets you combine a round of golf with the Château, the Boulevard des Pyrénées and the restaurants of the historic centre.

A historic golf destination

Founded in 1856, Pau Golf Club is generally regarded as the oldest golf club in continental Europe. Its wooded setting in Billère is only a short drive from Les Terrasses d’Étigny.

Prepare your round

Check visitor access, tee-time availability, dress rules and current course conditions directly with the club. Booking ahead is advisable, particularly at weekends and during competitions.

A practical base in Pau

The apartments provide private parking, Wi-Fi and an independent arrival. After your round, you can leave the car in the garage and enjoy central Pau on foot.

Two courses near Pau

Alongside the historic Pau Golf Club in Billère, Golf de Pau-Artiguelouve, west of Pau, offers a second 18-hole course. Check each club’s visitor tee times, any handicap or licence requirements, equipment hire and competition calendar before booking.

Before setting off: confirm your tee time, allow time for equipment hire if needed, and check the weather. The foothills can bring quick changes in conditions.
