From Les Terrasses d’Étigny, opposite the Château gardens, much of this first visit can be enjoyed on foot. The aim is not to see everything: choose a few stops, allow time for breaks and adapt your route to the weather and your interests.
The Château and historic heart
Start in the Château district, then take time to explore the streets of the centre. A visit to the National Museum of the Château de Pau provides a useful introduction to the city’s history. Check opening times and visiting conditions before you go.
After a break, head to Boulevard des Pyrénées. Its promenade offers one of Pau’s finest panoramas, with views of the Pyrenees when conditions allow.
Parc Beaumont, terraces and city life
Parc Beaumont is ideal for a quieter morning. In the afternoon, return to the boulevard, choose a café or restaurant in the centre, then round off your day with an exhibition, concert or match taking place during your stay.
